Information for Garda Members
Fiosrú, the Office of the Police Ombudsman is the statutory body which deals with complaints from members of the public about the Gardaí. Fiosrú was established on 2 April 2025 following the commencement of the Policing, Security and Community Safety Act, 2024. Fiosrú is a new body with enhanced powers that will continue the work of the Garda Síochána Ombudsman Commission (GSOC).
If you're involved in a GSOC investigation, Fiosrú will continue that investigation under the Garda Síochána Act, 2005.
Any complaint where admissibility is determined after the commencement of the Policing, Security, Community Safety Act, 2024, the complaint will be sent for investigation by Fiosrú Designated Officers and you will be contacted directly by them.
If the investigation is returned to Garda Authorities for resolution, you will be contacted by Garda Authorities.
All staff and records in GSOC have been transferred to Fiosrú ensure continuity of service.
When we write to you following the commencement of the Policing, Security and Community Safety Act, 2024, correspondence will be from Fiosrú. The letter will bear the logo and branding of Fiosrú as you can see on this website.
